John Stanley Vaughan, Sr.

John Stanley Vaughan, Sr., 86, a loving husband, father and brother, died Friday, February 23, 2018 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Mr. Vaughan was born March 31, 1931 in Jackson, NC where he continued to live a full and happy life with his family and friends. He was a member of Creeksville Baptist Church, at which he served as Sunday School Director, Deacon, Chairman of Deacons, and was a member of the choir. He also served as Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Jackson Lions Club for many years where he served as president and held other offices. He was retired from the NC Department of Corrections. He served in the United States Army with a tour of duty in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Vaughan was preceded in death by a twin brother, Joseph Stanford; his parents, Vernon Russell Vaughan, Sr. and Maude White Vaughan; sisters, Bessie V. Crowder and Edith V. Cooke; and his older brother, Vernon Russell Vaughan, Jr.

Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Carolyn Flythe Vaughan; son, John S. Vaughan, Jr. and wife, Karen; sister, Sarah V. Colston; sister-in-law, Marie V. Vaughan; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Askew Funeral Service - Jackson Chapel in Jackson, NC, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Rev. Andy Sloan will conduct a funeral service at Creeksville Baptist Church on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial, with Military Honors, will immediately follow in Jackson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the Jackson Lions Club, PO Box 5, Jackson, NC 27845.
